I grew up on the West Coast of Scotland on a small remote island called Colonsay.  Because of the difficulty in getting things to the island, people had to constantly improvise by recycling in order to get by.

Over my life of designing and building, this has been one of the clearest memories from my childhood and still influences me to this day.

When I moved to Australia in 2009 I noticed that good quality wooden venetian blinds were being discarded and heading for landfill. This prompted me to wonder what possible alternative future they might have.

It was from this question that the concept of upcycling wooden venetian blinds into light fittings began.

From Discarded Blinds to Pendant Shades

”the opportunity to upcycle trash, or turn it into new products, was vast”
